20-21 Status update from Principal McCarthy-Grant

Chester Valley Elementary

June 24, 2020

Dear Chester Valley Families,

I hope this letter finds all of our Chester Valley families healthy and safe. I want to take a minute and express my sincere appreciation for the support and feedback received during fourth quarter and throughout the summer regarding the top-shelf efforts of the Chester Valley teachers and support staff to engage and work with our students during the quarantine. This professional group at Chester Valley Elementary School want to do right by the students and families that we serve regardless of the circumstances.

As we move closer to the beginning of the 2020-21 school year, my goal is to keep our Chester Valley community informed with new information in a timely manner. To that end, this letter is to remind you of the proposed options the Superintendent spoke to recently in a live Facebook session.

Registration:

Online registration for returning ASD students is currently open. Some of you have already taken the few minutes needed to update your information and register your student(s) for the coming year at Chester Valley. If you have not done so, please take the time to complete this process.  This will help us out immensely in the planning of this coming school year start. If you need assistance, please call Helen or Melissa in the office 742-0335. The front office is a Wednesday the 22nd of July. The office staff will be personally calling every Chester Valley family that has not registered to offer assistance with the process in the coming weeks. Safety dictates that registration is completed entirely online.  In the few cases were in person contact is necessary the office staff will create appointments.  If you come to the building for this purpose please remember masks are required and social distancing will be expected for your safety and the safety of the office staff.

This year, new to ASD and new kindergarten students will also be able to register virtually rather than in person. Specific information for this virtual registration of new to ASD students will be sent to parents soon. Please do not hesitate to call the front office for assistance at 742-0335. Here is a video that you can review which will provide a step by step explanation of this process.  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C9EIjPPK-GOyPHtyzygWCn_lZUdaZKDS/view

Options for the 20-21 School Year:

ASD understands what works for one family might be different than the needs of another family and is, therefore, providing options for this school year. Please go to https://www.asdk12.org/2020start to see the options available to you and your family. On this site, you will see that ASD is currently offering three different options to choose from for the 2020-21 school year. Chester Valley Elementary will offer both the “Traditional” or “Virtual” learning models. You can access more information on the above website for each of these models. Additional information is available at this link as well - https://www.asdk12.org/asdoptions

Traditional: With the ASD in school (traditional) option, students attend their neighborhood school or school of choice. For this option, there are three learning delivery methods. They can be combined or used individually.

  1. Face to Face: Students attend school, with their peers, instructed by a teacher.

  2. Live online instruction (synchronous): Live instruction from a teacher, using a digital platform. Students access this from their home.

  3. Recorded online instruction (asynchronous): Recorded instruction, and/or activities provided by the teacher in an online platform, that allows students/families to access the content at their own pace and timing.

Virtual: A new full-time virtual program will allow families the choice to opt-in to homeschooling through their neighborhood school or school of choice. This program will provide families the tools to home school full time, while still being tied to school-wide activities and programs. More information on this new opt-in program will be available at the end of July. To enroll in the “Virtual” option, navigate the instructions on the ASD website. If you decide to go with this option, please do this as soon as possible for our planning purposes. If you plan to remain in the “Traditional” model, you don’t have to sign up for anything. This is the default we will use for everyone. With both of these options, your child(ren) will be considered a Chester Valley Elementary Student.

Other Homeschool Options:  You as families have the option of registering and being a part of the three different home school programs that the school district offers. You can access links to these programs through the website above. The home school options are associated with ASD but are not associated with Chester Valley Elementary. If you choose to go with one of the three ASD homeschool options, please email our secretary, Melissa Matos, matos_melissa@asdk12.org with this information so she can watch for records requests from your new school.

And lastly, a reminder that at this time, everyone working at and visiting Chester Valley Elementary MUST wear a mask while in our building and social distancing guidelines will be expected.  My top priority is the safety of our students and staff, and I take that responsibility very seriously. Please help us provide a safe and healthy learning environment for our community.

Hoping this finds you and your family happy and healthy,

Meghan McCarthy-Grant
