Notifications regarding weather closures
ASD Families and Staff,
As the snow continues to fall on Anchorage today, we want to provide a friendly reminder to check your Q ParentConnection, email, text, and ASD app settings to ensure you receive timely information if in the event that school operations are impacted by inclement weather.
Our winter road conditions team is ready to go and will be doing overnight road checks to determine viability of access and travel for tomorrow. Please know that we will also be working with our partners from the Municipality of Anchorage, Alaska Department of Transportation, and National Weather Service.
Here are a few tips:
- We will notify you by 5:30 a.m. if we have delays, remote learning, or closure. If we can do it sooner, we will. Exceptions may occur on days when weather or road conditions change rapidly during the morning hours.
- If school operations change due to inclement weather, we will place a red banner across the top of our ASD homepage. The absence of a notice indicates there are no delays or closures.
- In addition to email, text, and the app, we post to social media and notify our local media partners in the event of closures.
- Our back-up plan is remote learning, though it will be used only if necessary. Schools are prepared to implement, and families should anticipate, remote learning days instead of class cancellations.
- Read the District’s Emergency School Closure Procedures for more details.
We hope this will be a light winter in comparison to the last two years of record snowfalls. Regardless, please remember to buckle up and stay safe on the roads.
