Most Outstanding Fine Arts Senior and Exemplary Artist

ASD Begins a New Tradition Honoring Student Artists

It is with great pride that we announce our very first awards for ASD's Most Outstanding Fine Arts Senior (MOFAS) and our ASD Exemplary Artist. These two students represent the best in performance and creativity in our schools, and we are very pleased to share their work with you.

This year, these awards combine the talents of a singer and a portrait artist. During a recognition ceremony at the Monday, May 6 Board Meeting, we unveiled the portrait of the Most Outstanding Fine Arts Senior as created by our Exemplary Artist. Before the unveiling, the MOFAS performed "Helft mir ihr schwestern" by Robert Schumann, accompanied by Susan Wingrove-Reed on the piano.

Both students were recognized for their stellar artistic capabilites.

Our Most Outstanding Fine Arts Senior Jordan McCready is a nearly graduated senior of West Anchorage High School. She is a student of our West High Choir Director, Gabrielle Wibbenmeyer. Jordan plans to attend Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa this fall and double major in Music (vocal performance) and History. During her high school years she has enjoyed performing in choir and orchestra and participating in Nordic skiing, soccer, volleyball, running, and rock climbing.  Along with her passion for singing, she also shares a love of unique instruments, such as banjo and digeridoo.  Jordan is honored and humbled to be receiving this award for ASD's Most Outstanding Fine Arts Senior.

Our Exemplary Artist Max Manley is a Sophomore at East Anchorage High School. He has been making art for as long as he can remember and has been driven to create diverse and powerful pieces. Max enjoys exploring new mediums and is seldom seen using the same materials and techniques twice in a row. He loves creating new works of art and is diligently working to make a name for himself in the art community. Max is very excited to see what his future holds.
