Principal Update: October 26, 2018
King Tech Students and Parents:
1. Calendar Items on Note:
a. Registration for second semester will begin the week of November 5. Students will register for their CTE course, core courses, and, if they choose, from an array of new Power Hour courses that meet from 1:30 to 2:30, Tuesdays through Thursdays. The menu of Power Hour Courses will be posted by November 2.
b. We will host two evening Showcase events on November 6 and 13 for new sophomores, juniors, or seniors who are interested in taking King Tech courses next semester. Times will be from 7 to 8:30pm on 11/6, Election Day, and from 6 to 8pm on 11/13. The evening begins with a presentation in Meeting Room 1 and then moves to classroom visits where current students and their teachers will demonstrate some of the robust hands-on activities and answer any questions you may have. Please spread the word.
c. Monday, November 12 is a professional development day for teachers throughout ASD. No school for students on the 12th.
d. On Wednesday, November 14 from 5:30 to 7pm, Alaska’s Commission on Postsecondary Education will host a Parent and Student FAFSA workshop at KTHS. For any of our students who are interested in pursuing training beyond high school and would like assistance in completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid, this is a great opportunity to hear from the professionals who specialize in this information. Please share with all students. Refer any questions to the Job Center.
e. Thanksgiving is just around the corner on November 22. We wish everyone a very happy holiday.
2. Thank you to all parents and students who attended our Parent-Teacher conferences on October 24. We had a very large turnout, and I trust good information was shared by our teachers.
3. King Tech is launching a Parent Teacher Organization, and we need you! Please email faculty PTO liaison Teena Calkin (Calkin_Teena@asdk12.org) if you’re willing and able to help out.
4. King Tech High School’s first graduation ceremony is booked for Thursday, May 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wendy Williamson Auditorium on UAA’s campus. It will be a commencement to remember and one I hope that our entire community can attend. More information will be coming shortly.
5. There is a link on our website to the Yearbook page. Please surf and direct any questions to our advisory, Emily DaLuz (Daluz_emily@asdk12.org).
That’s all for now. Don’t hesitate to contact any of us with questions, 742-8900.
