Update for March 1, 2019

Greetings King Tech Families and Friends,

My name is Kern McGinley, and I will be serving as acting principal for the remainder of the school year. As you may be aware, Mr. Pondolfino recently resigned for personal reasons.

I have been an educator for 20 years and have served as a general education and special education language arts teacher. As an administrator, I have served the Anchorage School District in comprehensive high schools as an Activities, Curriculum, and Student Services Assistant Principal. I am excited to be serving King Tech High because I believe in the Career and Technical Education mission of preparing all students for post-secondary education and the workforce.

Denise Edwards, East HS Activities AP, will be joining us for the remainder of the year as the student and staff services assistant principal. Denise has served as a High School Assistant Principal for 10 years in the following areas: Curriculum, Student Services, Activities, Freshman Academy and Staff Services and CTE Background in secondary and post-secondary education.

These weekly updates will continue, so please stay tuned for the latest news and happenings from KTHS.

We are excited to continue the mission of serving the students of King Tech High School. Please feel free to contact me by calling 742-8900 or sending an email.

Sincerely,

Kern McGinley, M.Ed

PTA

We need you and/or your membership to help get our PTA going. A Parent Teacher Association is an organization that supports the school, teachers and students.  Even if you can’t be on the board, please consider paying dues and coming to the meetings you can. Your input is what makes a dynamic organization.  The next two meetings are schedule at KTHS:

March 25, 6–7:30 p.m., Room 219

April 22, 6–7:30 p.m., Room 219

See you there!

Career Technical Student Organizations

Here at KTHS, we have 3 CTSOs:  Educators Rising, Health Occupations Student Association and SkillsUSA.  Within those three organizations, we have classes in which the instructor coaches students through knowledge and skills in order to win state and national competitions. To date, all of our HOSA competitors from nursing, veterinary and EMT have moved to the second round of competition.

State competitions for 2019 are March 21–23 for both Educators Rising and HOSA and March 28–30 for SkillsUSA.  If you are a professional that would like to help judge a competition, especially for SkillsUSA, please email Teena Calkin or call 742-1297.

Once we know who is going to national competitions, we will be looking for ways to raise money to cover the cost of getting there. If you or your employer would like to help us, please contact CTSO coordinator Teena Calkin for more information on how to do so.  Your donations are tax deductible.
