TEACHING AND LEARNING Supplemental Learning Activities Over the next two weeks, ASD is focusing on supplemental learning activities for students. This will not take the place of regular classroom instruction, and therefore assignments will not be required or graded during this time. Teachers should instead work with their grade-level teams and departments on providing supplemental activities that families can do at home with their students or that students can work on independently. Staff can go to the Teacher Resources section of the COVID-19 Preparedness Support Central site for supplemental instructional ideas.
Concurrently, ASD is regularly communicating with the Alaska Department of Education and working on options for alternative education in the event of a prolonged closure. The District is prioritizing graduating seniors and helping all high school students progress through their credits if a prolonged closure is needed. Keeping students on track academically is of utmost importance to ASD. Please provide supplemental activities through March 30 and be ready for a more robust digital learning experience in the future if a longer closure is warranted. Information will be shared as it becomes available.
Finally, the Family Resources link on the ASD COVID-19 website is active. The website addresses Physical/Mental Wellness, Food Service, and Education Resources. This is meant to give families ideas and resources that they can do with children at home during the two-week closure. In addition to the District website, teachers should share supplemental learning activities with their students and families.
