railside's Battle of the Books for the 2020-2021 school year held its first meeting last week. It was thrilling once again to see the library full of excited kids joining a team of readers. It is not too late for your child to join. 5th and 6th graders are meeting on Tuesdays and 3rd and 4th graders are meeting on Fridays in the library during recess. This year there are 3 awesome coaches (Mrs. Reich, our ignite teacher, Mrs. Rand, former Trailside librarian currently a state librarian, and myself). Also, we are reigning state champions. Let's do this TIMBERWOLVES!
For those of you who are new to Battle of the Books, here’s a little background information… *The Battle of the Books is a statewide Alaskan reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the AK Association of School Librarians. The goals of the program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, and to promote academic excellence. A list of 12 books is selected in the spring of each year. The students read the books and work together with their team to memorize the titles and authors and to quiz each other
