Important Fentanyl Information 2023

April 19, 2023

Dear Hanshew Families,

As you are aware, the drug issue in our community is becoming a huge safety threat to our families. There has been an alarming increase in vape and drug usage over the past few months amongst our pre-teens and teenagers. In the community, there have been fentanyl overdoses which have required the administration of naloxone nasal spray (Narcan), emergency personnel on ASD campus, and hospital visits.

Some students are taking unknown pills or using powder laced with fentanyl that they got from unknown sources, snapchat and other social media sites, and other students. It is important that you talk to your student about the deadly dangers of drugs, especially fentanyl and monitor social media, text messages, and chats.

During advisory next week (April 25, 2023) we are going to educate our students about the dangers of fentanyl by having a class discussion and watching a video clip.

Attached is a guide that teachers will be sharing with students along with the 6-minute video clip of Dead on Arrival. The longer 20 minute version of the video is available for parents/guardians at bit.ly/DLDOAshort-ag. For more information about fake pills, drugs, and fentanyl, please visit the following website: https://www.dea.gov/onepill

If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks,

Dr. Lakhita Hodge
