National Junior Honor Society Induction on Feb. 20th
Dear Mears Families,
It has been a challenging school year for honoring my commitment to building our membership in National Junior Honor Society. The earthquake and the ice day each created their own set of issues for meeting deadlines, both for sponsors and students.
In light of this, we have decided to allow some flexibility in regard to our application policy for new and continuing candidates. In addition to needing a cumulative GPA of 3.5, and recommendations from two teachers, the following will apply:
If your student is able to verify any community service done this school year, I will accept it as part of their candidacy application, whether as a new 7th or 8th grade candidate, or as an 8th grade member from last year.
Revised paperwork deadline: , Feb. 11 at 3:00 PM.
If your student is still in need of volunteer hours (5 are required), some options are mentioned below:
The Loussac Library is inviting teens to volunteer between 3:00 and 5:00 PM on Fridays.
As school was cancelled last Friday, so was the Bayshore Luau, which many students were planning to help out at to get their hours; it has been rescheduled for Feb. 15.
Some students are acting as tour guides for the elementary tours of our building these next two weeks; those hours are applicable for candidacy.
We're holding a Family Night Dance on Wed., Feb. 13 from 6:30-8:00 PM. Students can volunteer to help set-up, run an event, or help with clean-up to get their hours.
Students helping at the luau, the school dance, or as a tour guide may turn in their community service form on Feb. 19; the rest of their paperwork should be turned in on Feb. 11.
Finally, the Induction Ceremony has been moved to Wed., Feb. 20 at 6:30 PM; the rehearsal to after school on Tues., Feb. 19. If attendance at either of these events is an issue for you or your family due to travel plans, please contact Janie Klueber or Lani Roylance.
Thank you for your kind patience and understanding,
