As Jane Mears Middle School’s principal, I am privileged to work with teachers, staff, students, parents and community members to support an educational program that ensures that every student has great opportunities to realize their full potential.
Mears Middle School promotes learning that is cooperative, team-centered and academically challenging. We are a school dedicated to ensuring that students become partners in their own educational progress, while fostering self-respect, responsibility and integrity. At Mears, our goal is to support all students’ development and growth so that they are well prepared to succeed as they transition into high school and beyond.
Mears is one of the finest middle schools in the Anchorage School District. The school has a long tradition of student success, strong family and community involvement, and providing exceptional academic instruction and social and emotional support.
I have been an educator for 23 years and am privileged to have been a classroom teacher for thirteen years. In 2008, I decided to move into school leadership to participate more directly in public school’s ongoing pursuit of excellence and equity for all students. I am a product of the California State University system. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from San Diego State University in 1992. I completed my Masters at San Francisco State University in 1995 with a major in US History. I received both credentials for teaching and educational leadership from Sonoma State University in Northern California.
I like to run, hike, read, cycle and play the drums. I enjoy my family and friends tremendously.
