We are now into day four following the initial hit of the November 30 7.0 earthquake. ASD is continuing to assess damages at all schools and administrative facilities. The District is employing a two-stage process to determine safe occupancy. Stage one involves structural engineers and other professional experts who conduct a detailed safety analysis. During stage two, capital project and maintenance personnel confirm and tag schools as red, yellow, and green according to individual building needs.
Those schools deemed in “green” status are considered safe to enter. Principals may allow controlled access to staff and students. Principals will communicate directly with families and staff. Any entry into schools to retrieve personal emergency items will be monitored in a systematic and safe manner.
Please note this is our last scheduled community earthquake update; other notifications will occur on an as needed basis. Updates, multi-media products, and additional resources are available on the District’s website under Hot Topics. These reports are fluid and will be continually updated to reflect the status of each ASD school and building.
As I have shared news about our schools across the city, we know that continuing to work through all of the safety issues is our top priority. Keeping our children and families safe is a job that we take seriously every day. Teachers will be taking time this week to inventory, clean, and organize their classrooms; additionally they will prepare for the educational, social, and emotional learning needs of our students.
Your assistance and patience are appreciated now and moving forward.
