Dec. 9: ASD Superintendent Update
Good afternoon ASD Families, Staff, and Community Members,
ASD crews, employees, and community volunteers have been working around the clock since the earthquake hit on November 30, to ensure that our facilities are safe and ready to receive students. Additionally, school staff have joined with other schools to provide personal support, extra hands, and steady encouragement. Experiencing the earthquake and continuing aftershocks are unplanned events but events for which we prepare, practice, and are ready. Putting in order the facilities has been a monumental task. Putting in order the emotional and human readiness lies within each of us and collectively, together.
We have a visual look for you of some of what our schools and communities experienced, as well as a message from me to you all. Welcome back!
Students in most ASD schools will return to school tomorrow morning, Monday, December 10. Gruening Middle School students start school on Tuesday morning, December 11, at Chugiak High School. Eagle River Elementary School students and staff are settling in at Birchwood ABC and Homestead elementary schools, with preschool students at Ravenwood Elementary. King Tech High full time students will be participating in online, blended learning for Monday and Tuesday, returning to campus on Wednesday.
Your cooperation and support of one another has been tremendous. I cannot say enough how much the District appreciates the work, the support, and encouragement as we get back to the business of educating students.
Sincerely,
Dr. Deena Bishop
ASD Superintendent
