Absences
ASD considers school attendance extremely important. Therefore, regular attendance is expected for all Klatt students.
Please call the office at 907-742-5750 by 9:00 am to report an absence. Automated attendance calls will be made at 10am for students marked as absent by their teacher. Keep in consideration, any student who misses 1 or more hours during the school day is considered absent for the am or pm attendance taking period.
For more information about ASD's attendance policy, please see the Elementary School Handbook.
Pre-Approved Absences
Pre-approved absences can be arranged by notifying the front office at 907-742-5750. A prearranged absence form may be given to the parent or sent home with a student for the parent to sign and return. This form is intended to excuse 3-10 consecutive days of planned absences. Parents should also notify the teacher prior to the planned absence to arrange homework for their child. Up to 10 days total, per year, may be pre-approved for an excused absence. This is determined by the principal based on the students' accumulated absences, including absences due to illness. An absence may be coded unexcused if the student demonstrates or is a risk of chronic absenteeism or is below academic proficiency. Chronic absenteeism is missing 10 percent or more of school for any reason during the current school year.
Early Dismissal
Parent or guardian permission is required for any student dismissed early from school. Adults requesting an early dismissal of a student must report to the office and sign the student out. Only adult contacts on the student's approved contacts list may sign a student out early. If a parent chooses to have a non-listed contact pick their child up from school early, they must call the front office to arrange this and the non-listed contact must be readily available to present a government-issued ID to the office staff.
Tardiness
Tardiness disrupts instruction for the late student and the rest of the class. Students who are not in their classroom ready to learn at 8:00am are considered tardy for the morning session. At the end of the day, students picked up early are considered tardy from the pm session.
