Safety is First For Our Students
-
Northwood has implemented new pick up and drop off rules. Please review the information below to make sure we keep all our students safe.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you know, the safety of your child(ren) is of the utmost importance at our school. Our school has safety and emergency plans in place and we practice drills involved with these plans regularly so those students know what to do in the event of an emergency.
Student SupervisionEach classroom teacher has procedures for monitoring students in the classroom and throughout the school. Our school has an overall building monitoring plan as well, which details the supervision plan for students before, during and at the end of the school day. Students should arrive at school at 8:40 and can enter the building in order to wait by their classroom. School ends at 3:30 and students should go directly home at the end of school day.
Additionally, all students will be escorted as a class at the end of the day. The students will be escorted to the bus line-up area, parent pick-up, or dismissed to walk home. The one area for parent pick-up is to increase safety by having staff supervision until your child is picked up by you or your representative that you have previously designated in writing.
Afternoon Parent Pick-up (Parking lot map)
To increase student safety and supervision, afternoon student pick-up has been moved to in front of the portables on the southwest side of campus. A duty staff member will be looking for a neon placard with your family's name on it. If you do not have it, please be ready to let the duty staff member by the flag pole know your name. The duty staff member will relay the information to the staff member in charge of student release. You child(ren) will then be released to meet you along the fire lane for pick-up. If your child(ren) is(are) not ready, you will be asked to pull up to the stop sign and your child(ren) will meet you when he/she/they leave the building.
If the duty staff member does not recognize you and/or you do not have the family name placard, you may be asked to go to the office first. The office personnel will check to ensure you are on the approved student pick-up list. We appreciate your patience as this is a measure to ensure your child(ren) is(are) safe and reduce the likelihood of someone other than you or your designee to pick up your child(ren).
Parent/visitor parking will only be in the west parking lot. The north and east parking lots will be reserved for staff and buses. This is to lessen the vehicular traffic near the buses. In the past, students have walked between the buses and the students are not visible to the bus drivers.
