From the Principal
February is already here and in full swing! It is amazing how quickly the days go by. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate having students in the building again! The smiles, laughs, and noises are what fill my cup.
February 8, 2021, we will be welcoming back our 3-6 grade students. We are excited to be back to having PreK-6 grade students in the building. We will continue to follow our mitigation plan and work to keep students and staff safe and healthy.
A friendly reminder that masks are required on grounds. Our PreK-2 grade students are rock stars with this. If they forget one, we provide it and they carry on with their day. It really has been amazing to watch students learn the new procedures and carry on with the learning process in the classrooms. Our Trailside students and staff are remarkable!
Trailside is a part of ASDs Symptom-Free Schools. I want to thank all parents that have kept their children home when they have had a sniffle or picked students up when a symptom has been noted at school. We are always going to err on the side of caution with all symptoms and ALL families have been very understanding. Thank you so much for being receptive to the phone calls from Nurse Donna and proactive when keeping students home.
If you have a vacation planned outside of Alaska, please call and let the office know. We have a system to determine your child’s date they can return to school after you return from your vacation. ASD is following the CDC guidelines for travel and your child will need to quarantine. Online learning via canvas will be used for academics while in quarantine.
In the past, we would have students bring in treats for birthdays. With all the new rules and regulations for food, we are asking that you reach out to your classroom teacher prior to sending anything in. With the limit to items that can be shared, it will be best to ask first, so we don’t have to send items home and have sad students. Nonfood items would be great to share.
February 22-March 26 will be the School Climate and Connectedness Survey window for students, staff, and parents to complete. Watch your email for the links to complete the survey. These results help us to plan and set goals for the following school year. If you can, please take the time to complete the survey.
On the calendar, it shows February 11 and 12 as parent-teacher conference days. REMINDER that students DO have school both days. They are no longer days off. We get to keep the students in our classrooms engaged in learning.
February 15th is Presidents Day. No school for students or staff. No asynchronous learning either. It is just a day off for families to enjoy.
February 26th is an asynchronous learning day. Students will get lessons on canvas for the day and will not be coming to school.
March 5th there is no school for students as that is the first day of spring break. We will return to school on March 15th. If you travel for spring break please call the front office and let Karen know so we can give you the return date from quarantine.
Have a great February! If you have any questions or concerns please call the office and we will assist in any way possible.
Make today so awesome that yesterday is jealous!
