• What's Howling at Trailside?

  • From the Principal

    Hello Trailside Families;

    I hope this newsletter finds all of you happy, healthy and loving the longer days. I will say that I am loving having more daylight each day. Being able to go home and walk my dogs or ride my bike is so nice. The third quarter of school ends on March 5th and report cards will be ready beginning March 18th. These are viewable in parent connect. We will not be sending home paper copies.

    Remember there is no school on Friday, March 5th.

    If you have not done so, please complete the family portion for the Climate and Connectedness Survey. This information provides us with input for planning and goal setting each year. Students in grades 3-6 complete a survey within the classroom and staff also complete a survey. Having families fill this out helps us in setting schoolwide goals for the next year. It is valuable information for planning purposes. The link for the survey is https://surveys.panoramaed.com/aasb/asdfamily

    After spring break, we will begin the 4th quarter. March 15th we will begin planning for PEAKs, which is Alaska’s statewide assessment. This year we are planning to administer the assessment beginning the last week in March, through the first three weeks of April. Students will be taking math and reading assessments over two days. The 5th-grade students will also take a science test. In the past, the 4th grade took the science assessment, but the state recently changed the requirement to the 5th grade. Watch for more details and schedules to come home prior to testing taking place.

    We are working on planning for next school year. If you are not planning to return to Trailside please call Karen at the front office so we can adjust class numbers accordingly. Also, if you are planning to return to face-to-face learning next year from the virtual program, homeschool, or a private school setting you can let Karen know that too.

    Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to help navigate this school year and help in any way possible. You can reach out by calling the office at 907-742-5500 or jones_heather@asdk12.org

    Have a great spring break and see you on March 15th. If you are traveling for spring break please follow the guidelines that were sent out previously. Before returning to school from out-of-state travel students must have a negative COVID test (provided to the nurse) within 72 hours before getting to Alaska or upon landing. Students need to stay home until the negative COVID test is provided to the nurse.

    Have a great day!

    Mrs. Jones, Principal
