From the PrincipalDear Trailside Families;December is here and so is the cold weather. We have had inside recess for a few days in November so I am hopeful that the weather will warm up so we can all get fresh air and be outside. Remember we do go outside unless the windchill is -10 or colder. Please make sure students bring warm clothes and write their names in their coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, and boots as many look the same and it helps when we are trying to identify items from the lost and found.Trailside students will be working hard until winter break! Students will be taking part in winter benchmark assessments in grades k-6. These are exciting for staff and students to see how they are progressing throughout the school year. Students in grade k-2 will be doing the FastBridge assessment on the 6th and 7th of December while out 3-6 grade students will be completing the MAP assessments. These assessments help teachers create intervention groups and provide extra help where it is needed or acceleration if that is needed. Please encourage your students to do their best on this assessment so we can get a clear picture of student learning. The last day of school before winter break is December 16th. No school for students on December 17th, and our first day back in 2022 is January 3rd. I hope everyone has a great winter break and is able to enjoy some of what Alaska has to offer in the winter.Have a safe and enjoyable break!Sincerely,Mrs. Jones, principal

Battle of the Books
Trailside's Battle of the Books for the 2020-2021 school year held its first meeting last week. It was thrilling once again to see the library full of excited kids to join a team of readers. It is not too late for your child to join. 5th and 6th graders are meeting on Tuesdays in the library during recess. This year there are 3 awesome coaches (Mrs. Reich, our ignite teacher, Mrs. Rand, former Trailside librarian currently a state librarian, and myself). Also, we are reigning state champions. Let's do this TIMBERWOLVES!
5th and 6th 2022 school battle permission slip.
For those of you who are new to Battle of the Books, here’s a little background information… *The Battle of the Books is a statewide Alaskan reading motivation and comprehension program sponsored by the AK Association of School Librarians. The goals of the program are to encourage and recognize students who enjoy reading, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, and promote academic excellence. A list of 12 books is selected in the spring of each year. The students read the books and work together with their team to memorize the titles and authors and to quiz each other
