• What's Howling at Trailside?

  • Greeting to all Trailside Families,

I hope this note finds you all doing well and staying warm.  Mother nature cannot seem to decide if she wants to be warm or cold.  The ice has been a struggle at school.  Every time our BPO and the district puts down gravel, it warms up and then refreezes, and the gravel is under the ice.  We are working to ensure that the students, staff and families are safe when walking to and from the building.  If we decide it is too icy, we will call inside recess or close areas of the playground.

We are almost at the end of the second quarter.  It is hard to believe that we will be halfway through the school year on December 21st.  Students do not have school on December 22nd and don't return to school from the winter break until January 8th.  I hope everyone has time to unplug and enjoy time with family and friends.

Our student council has been working hard to give back to the community with the help of our school.  They did the food drive and brought in 997 pounds of food to donate to the food bank.  They are now getting ready to make toys for tots.  The Student Council is selling Snowman Soup.  This is similar to a candy gram.  The cost is 3.00 each and you will receive the snowman soup on Monday, December 15th.  The deadline to purchase one is December 11th.  You can purchase them at the online store for Trailside PTA.  This is a fun new way to say happy holidays to students and staff.

In the month of December we are also doing our winter benchmark assessments for students in grades K-6.  K-3 students will be taking mClass assessments and grades 3-6 will be doing the MAP testing.  Be on the lookout in Parent Connect and in your child's backpack for assessment results.  The benchmark assessments are a way for staff to see how much growth students have made for the year.

Attendance is critical to learning within the school.  Being tardy means students miss important information at the beginning of the day.  Please work hard to ensure that students are on time and present, so they can learn the skills they need for future grades.  I understand the circumstances arise and illnesses occur.  This is just a friendly reminder of the importance of being in school each day!

Have a very happy holiday season and enjoy the winter break.  I look forward to the third quarter starting in January.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.  I am here to help.

    Happy Holidays,
