• What's Howling at Trailside?

    Greetings  Trailside Families;
    Brrrrrrrrrr, this has been quite a Winter with all the snow and cold weather.  Please make sure and send your students to school with proper gear for cold weather.  Students go outside until it is below -10.
    We have a lot of items in our lost and found.  Please come in and check it out.  It is in the foyer.  There are jackets, snow pants, boots, hats, gloves and shoes.  Remember to write your child's name inside their gear, so we can get it back to them if they get left outside.
    We will begin our ACCESS testing for students that are a part of our ELL program.  This will happen in February.
    Parent-teacher conferences are coming up.  They will be February 21 and 22.  That week is really different this year.  No school on February 19th and then dismissal at 12:30 on February 21 and 22 with no school for students on February 23rd.  Please make sure you sign up for a parent-teacher conference with your teacher, so you can learn how they are doing in class.
    The AK Reads Act has brought new discussions and planning for teachers.  We have been working with students that need extra support to get where they need to be based on their grade level in reading.  Teachers are working on specific skills based on benchmark assessments each day with students that are below proficiency.  If your child is struggling with reading, there is a free tutoring service that is offered for K-2 students through the Alyeska Reading Institute (ARI).  ARI provides intervention materials & tutoring services at no cost.  You can contact Melinda Krise at melinda.krise@alaska.gov or call 907-269-0124.
    We have a couple of open positions at Trailside.  We need a special education paraprofessional and an ELL tutor.  Both positions are on the district web site.  If you are interested, please reach out to me and I can tell you more about them.
    As always, have a great month, and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.  I am here to help in any way possible.
