During the 2009-2010 school year, we collaborated with their presentation of Eugene Onegin, a classic Russian opera, with our Russian class, entire school at a special assembly, and with our visiting Russian exchange students. Native Village of Eklutna Partnership

- provide speakers for class presentations on Alaska History and to share an understanding of Athabascan peoples, important values needed, and the purpose for certain traditional ways.
Eklutna history and personal life stories are shared in the classroom upon request. Job opportunities are also available at the Eklutna Museum and Gift Shop and many of our exchange students and their hosts have received personalized tours through the church and cemetery at Eklutna Village.
Two of the main goals of this organization are education and culture as described on their website:
Educational & Cultural Preservation- Education: Through a number of NVE departments, educational information is offered to our Tribal Youth through books, pamphlets, brochures, videos, a use of a computer lab, scheduled group activities, or one-on-one tutoring. For young adults, we have informational binders such as various colleges available.
- Cultural Preservation: To pass on the Dena’ina culture. Our Village has been instrumental in the continuation of passing our culture on to the younger generations. NVE will continue as a contact for NHPA (National Historic Preservation Act), Section 106, and similar legislation. Currently all departments incorporate cultural philosophy and activities into NVE operations and programs.
Learning for Life Partnership
Oopsie Daisy Partnership
A family owned and operated business in Eagle River, which offers floral arrangements and gifts, with attention to giving these gifts a personal touch. From a request to get a business sign hung in our stadium to a strong partnership with Meredith Abbett, owner of Oopsie Daisy, each year has brought greater involvement with this neighborly partner. Discounts are given on floral orders purchased for school events, and one of our former students, Shauna Moore, can still be found working in the shop even after she graduated and continued on at this place of business while going to college. Shauna was Chugiak’s 2006 nomination for the Student STAR Award and she was the recipient of this award. Meredith, her employer and our business partner, attended the STAR Awards luncheon to see her employee and our shared student win this award and give a speech about her time invested in local school business partnership activities. Carrs Safeway Partnership
For three years our Honors Art students have enjoyed decorating the windows of this long time business partner for the holidays. In winter of 2009 this service learning project was taken over by our Drama Debate and Forensics team. Our Friends of Rachel and LGBT Club have also taken on this task for a year each. Managers can be seen at the school working with classes on Junior Achievement Leadership Success Skills and practicing all phases of mock interviews and skills leading up to them, including job applications, resumes, cover letter writing and interview thank you notes. Fireweed Dry Cleaning
- Continue to supply free cleaning for the already established Coat for Kids Program
- Work with the CHS Key Club and School Business Partnership Coordinator to coordinate

A career planning and exploration program that combines a multiple-aptitude test with an interest self-assessment and a wide range of career exploration tools Students may take a free test to check their vocational skills throughout the year and speakers are also available for classroom presentations. Kids' Kitchen Partnership
Opportunities for students and their families to help prepare and serve meals for the those in need, plan holiday celebrations for the children, and collect cans of food to donate to the organization, which provides breakfast and lunch programs to low-income families. Experiencing real life application of skills learned in the classroom and connecting with a need in the community is a great benefit of this partnership.

Alaska Fine Arts Academy Partnership
In 1984 Art and Eleanor Braendel, Alaskan pioneers, formally established a center for the instruction of music and other art forms. They originally called it the Eagle River Fine Arts Academy and only later (in the 1990's) was the name changed to the Alaska Fine Arts Academy. From the very beginnings, the Academy intended to teach more than just music. The Academy envisioned itself as a community arts center where music and visual and moving arts would be available to everyone in the community, both as participants and as patrons. As a Patron of the Arts, AFAA proudly displays the works of local artists and photographers in its lobby.
Alaska Fine Arts Academy: As one of our newer business partners, we are continuing to work out a variety of joint efforts between the school and business. The business is interested in promoting their programs and sharing space of recital rooms and the stage when needed and the arts instructors are encouraged to call upon speakers and special arts demonstrations from this partner. The CHS Improv Team has already been seen performing on this business partner’s stage and a variety of events will continue to be jointly planned.

Provides a venue for local teachers to hang student art shows, for emerging artists to have solo shows and for musicians to play their tunes on occasion. They support the Partners in Schools Program emphasizing that education is crucial to the success of our next generation. Many of their baristas grew up in Eagle River and are working in their home town. It’s company policy to hire locally whenever they can to create a great quality of life, which they love sharing with the community.
