Parent News 1/5/21
Dear Dimond Families-
Welcome Back and Happy New Year! I hope that your families were able to rest and relax during the break. Students should be rested and ready for the 3rd quarter. As mentioned previously, we will continue classes online. All students need to attend ZOOM sessions daily, participate, and complete assignments. We are scheduled to open the building this month for small groups. This opportunity will be for students needing assistance and guidance while accessing their online classes. These students are expected to attend ZOOM classes for the first two weeks of the quarter from home and return to the building on January 19th. Detailed information will be provided to these families regarding their return to the building in the next week. Also, please access Q to review your student's 2nd quarter grades.
MATERIALS DISTRIBUTION:
For Students & Parents:
3rd Quarter Distribution of Textbooks, Yearbooks, Art Supplies, Musical Instruments, Photos, Etc.
- Old Gym Lobby (use the student parking lot access off Arlene)
- Monday, Jan 11 from 7 AM to 9 AM AND 11 AM to 6 PM (Note break from 9 AM to 11 AM) AND Tuesday, Jan 12 from 7 AM to 3 PM.
- Drive up to the old gym lobby. Please wear masks, stay in your car, and someone will come out to the car. We will need to know the student’s name and what you are picking up (textbooks, art supplies, yearbooks, school photos, etc.). If you are picking up textbooks, it really helps to know the teacher(s)’ name(s). We can look this up if you don’t have the information.
- Teachers will let students know if they need to pick up textbooks or supplies.
- You may also return items during this time.
WINTER DIAGNOSTIC NEWSLETTER INFORMATION:
Students in grades K-12 (except ASD Virtual students) took a reading and mathematics diagnostic as part of the first two weeks of school this fall. Students will be taking these diagnostic assessments again during the winter diagnostic window, now through January 22. Most students will take these assessments at home as they did in the fall.
These diagnostic assessments are designed to provide teachers and parents with information about where a student is ready to learn, including areas of strength and areas of concern. It is important to remember that students should take these diagnostic assessments independently. These assessments allow your child’s teacher to meet your student exactly where they are and provide data to increase your student’s learning gains.
iReady: Please use the following resources to help guide your student through a successful remote winter diagnostic administration.
Diagnostic Content Assessments by Grade Level
- Reading
- iReady - Grades K-10, Grades 11-12 Tier III Courses
- Mathematics
- iReady - Grades K-8

DHS BASKETBALL AND BASKETBALL CHEER
Cheer tryouts will be January 11th and 12th from 5-7pm. We will do it by sign ups only to ensure proper social distancing. The tryout dance and cheer will be shared via planeths for those wanting to get a jump on things! We will have a team of 18 with the possibility of mid season tryouts. Please make sure to have all paperwork turned in and fines paid prior to January 11th or you will not be permitted to tryout. Coach Stephanie will share a document with you via planeths to secure your tryout slot.
Boys & Girls basketball is scheduled to begin on January 11,2021. If you are interested in participating, you will need to have all forms completed on planeths.com and payment submitted online through Q/parent connect (with winter break beginning we will not be able to accept cash or check payments at the school). If you have reached the family cap for the year in sports or have any questions regarding sports registration, please contact Activities Clerk Jasmynn Whilden by email at whilden_jasmynn@asdk12.org
IMPORTANT!!!!
With the information on COVID-19 constantly changing the ASAA Board approved changes to the COVID-19 waiver form, the new form is now live on planeths. What this means is all students that previously showed approved now show pending. Parents need to go back in and sign the new COVID form. The main change is as follows:
I acknowledge I have received the ASAA COVID-19 Parent Fact Sheet and that ASAA recommends students who are either presumed positive or positive of having contracted COVID-19 should be cleared by their medical provider and do a return to play protocol prior to returning to activities. https://asaa.org/wp-content/uploads/COVID-Parent-Fact-Sheet.pdf
