DHS Wednesday News Blast 1/12/22
Greetings Dimond Families!
As you know, Covid is directly impacting our students and staff. Please continue to contact us as soon as possible when your student has tested positive for Covid. The attendance office will ensure that the absence of your student is noted in the Q Student Information System. Notification letters will be sent to parents to inform of a positive case in their students’ class or classes. The letter encourages families to monitor their students for symptoms and follow Covid protocols if necessary.
During this challenging time, your students will have substitute teachers covering their classes. Canvas or substitute plans will be used. In some cases, students will work independently. We appreciate your patience during the teacher’s absence and ask that you contact us if you have any concerns or questions.
ASD will provide an update to the mask-wearing mitigation on January 14th. We appreciate your efforts in helping to keep Dimond safe.
Please continue to encourage your student to maintain proper mask-wearing, wash their hands, and social distance, when possible, at school. Correct mask-wearing always means over the nose and mouth unless eating or drinking. This is particularly important at activities, i.e., sporting events indoors and in crowded settings when physical distancing cannot be maintained. Students who fail to comply with wearing their mask properly, will receive a detention.
EXTENDED YEAR OPPORTUNITY:
Students who received a grade of 50%-59% in a core class for the 1st semester are being offered the opportunity to raise that grade to a “D” by attending (in-person) Extended Year (EY). This will be two days per week for up to 4 weeks and will consist of completing a project in the core area for which the student received the 50%-59%.
Students who qualify may take advantage of this opportunity for 1 subject from each group (either English or Social Studies, and either Math or Science). The EY schedule January 24-February 17 is as follows:
English and Social Studies--Mondays and Wednesdays 2:15 PM-4:15 PM
Science and Math—Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:15 PM-4:15 PM
This opportunity requires commitment during the days and times of EY. Students must attend each session until the EY teacher accepts the project as complete. If students are unable to fulfill the commitment, repeating the course through APEX or summer school will be required. Letters will be sent home this Friday for students who qualify and parents will receive instructions on how to register your student for EY in that letter.
Make-up Final Exams from Semester 1
Students who missed final exams from 1st semester (exams were given on December 15th and 16th) are able to make up their exams after school from 2-4 pm on Thursday and/or Friday, January 13th and 14th, 2022. Students are to report to the curriculum office no later than 2:10PM and will be escorted to a classroom with a proctor. First semester grades will be changed once the exam is completed and the new average is computed. This will be the last opportunity for make-ups.
Schedule Change Requests for 2nd Semester Students who would like to request a change to their schedule will need to complete the goldenrod Schedule Change Request Form. These forms can be found outside of each counselor’s door, as well as in the front and curriculum offices and can be turned in to any counselor or the curriculum office. Requests are processed based upon seat availability and student academic need. Once you submit the form, it can take 24-48 hours for processing. After allowing time for processing, be sure to log in to your student account and check your schedule.
Schedule changes will only be considered for the following reasons:
- You have already taken the class and it is not repeatable
- You do not have the prerequisites for the course
- You need to repeat a course
- You would like to be considered for a different elective.
Schedule changes will NOT be considered for the following reasons:
- Want a different teacher
- Want a different class period
- Want to be with a friend in a different class.
