DHS Wednesday News Blast 1/18/22

Greetings Dimond Families!

Spring conferences in February have been canceled for middle schools and high schools.  There will be conferences for elementary schools.  The week of February 14th will consist of four full days of instruction and no school on February 18th due to an in-service for staff.  Please continue to monitor your student’s progress.  Also, if you have concerns or questions, contact your student’s teachers or counselor so that they may assist you.

At this time, we will no longer be sending out COVID notification letters.  Thank you for continuing to monitor your student for symptoms.  We appreciate your continued support by directing your student to maintain proper mask-wearing, wash their hands, and social distance, when possible, at school.  Correct mask-wearing always means over the nose and mouth unless eating or drinking.  This is particularly important at activities, i.e., sporting events indoors and in crowded settings when physical distancing cannot be maintained.  In general, our students have been doing a great job adhering to the mitigation.  Students have become ambassadors or champions for providing a safe environment.  GO LYNX!

EXTENDED YEAR OPPORTUNITY:

Students who received a grade of 50%-59% in a core class for the 1st semester are being offered the opportunity to raise that grade to a “D” by attending (in-person) Extended Year (EY).  This will be two days per week for up to 4 weeks and will consist of completing a project in the core area for which the student received the 50%-59%.

Students who qualify may take advantage of this opportunity for 1 subject from each group (either English or Social Studies, and either Math or Science).  The EY schedule January 24-February 17 is as follows:

  • English and Social Studies--Mondays and Wednesdays 2:15 PM-4:15 PM
  • Science and Math—Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:15 PM-4:15 PM

This opportunity requires commitment during the days and times of EY. Students must attend each session until the EY teacher accepts the project as complete.  If students are unable to fulfill the commitment, repeating the course through APEX or summer school will be required.   Letters were sent home and parents of students who qualify received a copy of the letter via email.  Please register your student no later than this Friday, January 21, by 3pm.

MATH TUTORING AVAILABLE:

We are currently offering an after-school math tutoring program.   Students can come to B108 after school between 2:15-3:15 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays to receive math help. We encourage them to bring notes if they have them.

Activity Stickers

Activity Stickers are available for purchase on ParentConnect.  The cost is $50.00 for the school year.  This will get your student in to any home or away game during the school year.  Your student will receive a label on their Student ID they will need to present at the games.
