2022 Graduation Ticket Information
How many tickets will my senior receive for graduation?
Seniors whose ceremony is taking place at the Alaska Airlines Center will receive six tickets to distribute to family and friends.
When will seniors get their tickets?
Tickets will be handed out during graduation practice, which typically take place the week prior to the graduation ceremony. Please check with your school for the date and time of their graduation practice.
How did ASD determine that each senior would receive six tickets for graduation at the Alaska Airlines Center?
While the overall seating capacity of the Alaska Airlines Center is listed as 5,000 online, the seating capacity for ASD graduations will be closer to 2,200.
Why are there only 2,200 seats available?
In order to provide adequate floor space for the graduates, faculty, and the band/orchestra, the first tier of seating will be retracted, which reduces the seating capacity in the arena by about half. The seating behind the stage on the second and third level will also be closed off because it does not offer a view of the ceremony.
How many seniors are graduating at each school?
Graduating classes at the eight comprehensive ASD high schools average about 300 seniors. While there are smaller and larger graduating classes amongst our comprehensive high schools, the district chose to standardized the number of tickets for all ceremonies this year in order to establish a predictable number of tickets per graduate each year going forward. Doing so allows for normal fluctuations in enrollment at individual schools and allows families to make plans early without worrying about whether the number will change from year to year.
How can family and friends watch the ceremony if we don’t have enough tickets for them to attend in person?
The district will provide live streaming for all of the graduation ceremonies at the Alaska Airlines Center. The link will be available on the district’s graduation webpage. An archived video of the ceremony will also be available on the district graduation webpage in the days following the ceremony.
If other families are not using all six of their tickets, can I use some of theirs?
Yes. The district encourages families who do not plan to use all six of their tickets to find other families who may want additional tickets.
Can I use tickets from another ASD graduation ceremony?
No. Tickets will be clearly labeled with the school, date, and time of the graduation ceremony. Tickets from one school cannot be used at another school’s ceremony.
What if I have a unique family situation that may require more tickets?
While the district cannot provide extra tickets to all families who may want them because of the limited seating capacity at AAC, we understand some families may have special circumstances that need to be considered. Principals will receive a limited number of additional tickets they can distribute to address unique family needs. Please contact your school if you have a hardship request you want the principal to consider.
Why did the district stop using the larger Sullivan Arena for graduation ceremonies?
The Municipality of Anchorage is currently using the Sullivan Arena as a mass shelter for the city’s homeless population. It is not available for public events at this time.

Graduation Tickets, Finals, Grad Practice Information
April 14, 2022
Dear Parents of the Class of 2022,
In-person graduation is happening on May 11, 2022 at 7:00 PM at the Alaska Airlines Center. We are thrilled to be able to offer a more typical ceremony this year! Each graduate is guaranteed six tickets. Please fill out this Google Form to request your tickets and any additional tickets you might need if they become available. Only fill out one form per graduate. Duplicates will be discarded. Please ask for only what you need so that we can accommodate as many families as possible. Graduation tickets will be placed in the envelopes students will receive at graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 6, so getting that form back immediately is essential. For all graduates to be equally recognized, artificial noisemakers such as air horns, cowbells, etc., that drown out the next student’s name are not welcome at the ceremony. We expect the ceremony to be live-streamed on the ASD YouTube Channel for friends and family who cannot attend in person. The ceremony will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube later that day. Yard signs will be available to advertise your good news. We will let you know when those are ready. Graduates should arrive at the Alaska Airlines Center at 6 PM. The Alaska Airlines Center is waiving parking fees for the event.
Alaska Airlines Center has presented us with a new option that has not been available at our previous venue. They have made their three 16-person skyboxes available for our use. We will raffle those boxes off as a fundraiser for future classes. The beauty of the skyboxes is that the winners 1) can have 16 people (you can invite another family to join you if you have space) and 2) may contract with Alaska Airlines Center to cater the box for the event at your expense. Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each or six tickets for $25. Tickets can be purchased at the front office by cash or check beginning Monday April 18th. Checks should be made out to Service High School. The drawing will be held on Friday, April 29th.
Seniors will take their final exams in periods 4, 5, and 6 on Thursday, May 5. They will take their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-period finals on Friday, May 6. All classwork must be completed by the end of 3rd period on May 6 for students to participate in the ceremony. During 4th period on May 6, we will have a graduation rehearsal where students will get additional instructions for the ceremony. They will be dismissed after rehearsal and will not have school on Monday and Tuesday, May 9th and 10th.
By now, everyone should have ordered their cap, gown stole, and tassel from Jostens (Jostens.com). If you already have some of those items from a family member’s graduation, please feel free to use those. In that case, you only need the tassel and maybe the stole. We have not put the graduation year on the stole for the last few years, so if you have one of those, a new one is not necessary. Scott Brown can answer all questions that can’t be found on the website. His number is on Jostens website.
Senior Fun Day is scheduled for Friday, April 22, at Kincaid Park. We will begin with breakfast in the cafeteria and then bus the seniors to Kincaid Park. All students MUST ride the bus. Make sure permission slips are submitted.
Please read the weekly emailed announcements from Mrs. Robbins for information specific to seniors. It has valuable information in it. We also include information on the school website.
We are looking forward to a beautiful celebration for the Class of 2022!
Sincerely,
Allen Wardlaw
