Volcano Preparation Plans

In the event of a Mt. Spurr eruption during school hours, ASD will implement an early dismissal schedule as soon as possible.
  • Students will remain in their classroom until they are released with a way to get home.
  • Drivers and their riders will be allowed to drive home.
  • Bus riders will be released from their classes as we confirm their bus is in our loading area.
  • Parent pick up will need a little patience. Our phone lines will likely have a high volume of traffic, and it will take us a while to get through all the calls and messages:
    • Please text your student when you are here and they can let their teacher know they are ready to leave.
    • Any student who needs to wait in the foyer for a ride can also communicate this to their teacher and they can come down and wait until they see your car.
  • People Mover riders and walkers will also be allowed to leave when they communicate with their teacher that their guardian knows they are getting home in the usual manner.
Please have conversations with your students ahead of time about your family's plan for getting home in case of an early dismissal. The more they know what you want them to do, the better we can support them in a new and different situation.
We will have paper/fabric masks available for anyone who wants one and we are encouraging everyone to wear them outside.
Please let the nurse know if there are any extenuating health circumstances that are not already recorded in your student's records that may need special attention.
