The 2021-2022 academic year marks a milestone in the history of Gruening Middle School. We return to our campus after our school was remodeled as a result of the November 2018 earthquake. We are very excited to return to our home campus.
This school year is my 14th year as the principal of Gruening Middle School. I am originally from the state of Georgia. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in political science from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee; a Bachelor of Elementary Education and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
I am married with two grown sons, one who is an attorney in San Francisco, California. Our other son has returned to Anchorage after having completed his master degree and living for several years in New York City. My wife and I are also the proud grandparents of a beautiful baby girl born in May of 2018.
My hobbies include reading, long distance running (including several marathons years ago), skiing (both cross country skiing and downhill skiing), listening to music (anything from rock and roll, blues, jazz, and bluegrass), and traveling. I am also an avid college football fan, primarily Southeastern Conference college football. My team is the Georgia Bulldogs (GO DAWGS!). I also give back to the community by serving as a board member of the Chugiak/Eagle River Chamber of Commerce and the Chugiak-Eagle River Foundation.
It is with great pleasure that I serve Gruening Middle School as its principal.
