The 2018-2019 academic year marks my 12th year as the principal of Gruening Middle School. I am originally from the state of Georgia. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in political science from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee; a Bachelor of Elementary Education and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
I am married with two grown sons, one who is an attorney in San Francisco, California, and the other who is an artist involved in the theater in New York City. My wife and I are also the proud grandparents of a beautiful baby girl born in May of 2018.
My hobbies include reading, long distance running (including several marathons years ago), skiing (both cross country skiing and downhill skiing), listening to music (anything from rock and roll, blues, jazz, and bluegrass), and traveling. I am also an avid college football fan, primarily South Eastern Conference college football. My team is the Georgia Bulldogs (GO DAWGS!). I also give back to the community by serving in the Eagle River Area Rotary Club, as a board member of the Anchorage Youth Court and the Chugiak-Eagle River Foundation, and as the senior warden at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church.
It is with great pleasure that I serve Gruening Middle School as its principal.
