Come Prepared to Play Outside!
Please make sure your child comes to school ready to spend 25 minutes outdoors during recess. We added 5 minutes to our recess block in 2019. By ASD policy, we have outdoor recess unless the chill factor is below -10 degrees Fahrenheit.
Our students also play outside in a light rain.
It's important to write your child's first and last name in a visible spot on each piece of their winter gear. Our recess attendants reunite lost items with their owners each day. Labeling your child's items - even their boots - is essential to reuinting lost items.
Many items look alike, and children often forget exactly what their boots, gloves, etc. look like. The office is happy to lend you one of their black or silver Sharpies.
Print the I am Prepared card to hang in your home. Note: We increased our recess time to 25 minutes after these cards were printed.
Come prepared to play outside in all kinds of conditions - rain, snow and slush!
ASD's Lunch Program
Students can bring their own lunch or purchase a hot lunch from A.S.D. Elementary lunches are $4.25 per day (includes a milk). Student can also purchase just a milk for 75 cents (lactose-free milk is $1.25). We highly encourage parents to put monies on their child's lunch account using their ParentConnection account in Q. You can check your child's lunch balance using your ParentConnection online Q account. The district now provides a service to parents to get an electronic notification if your child's balance falls below an amount you set on your Q account. The notication amount and method are your choice.
ASD provides free and reduced-priced meals for students under the National School Lunch Program. Eligibility information may be found at https://www.nutrition.asdk12.org The fastest way to apply for this program is through their online portal at the web address above. Paper applications are available at the school.
Bayshore's Ice Rink
Sponsored by our PTA
Our P.T.A. keeps our ice rink flooded, groomed and free from snow at an average cost of about $5,000 per year.
Anchorage School District lights our rink from sundown until 10 p.m. - 7 days a week. This is a great way to get out and play!
In 2020, ASD deemed the sideboards of our ice rink unsafe and was forced to take them down. The PTA formed a group called Save the Bayshore Ice Rink and are raising money to reconstruct the ice rink. Donations are taken through their Go Fund Me page - https://gf.me/u/ywbafg - or by checks made out to the PTA. Mail check to the school @ 10500 Bayshore Drive, 99515. Questions? Contact Lee Twait at 223-0418 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
