    Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

ASDV knows that there is more to succeeding in school and life than academics. Just as important, is a student’s ability to understand themselves and others and make responsible choices. ASD Virtual students will have access to Suite360, a program that is designed to help develop and maintain social and emotional health.

Suite360 & Social Emotional Learning

  • What is SEL?

Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

SEL helps provide students with equitable, supportive, and welcoming learning environments. It is more than just a program or lesson; SEL can educate hearts, inspire minds, and help students navigate their world more effectively.

Why focus on social and emotional learning (SEL)?

Research shows academic, social, and emotional development of young people are intertwined and students with strong social and emotional learning skills perform better academically. Unfortunately, 1 in 6 children suffer from mental health issues.

    • A foundation for strong mental health helps children:
      • Understand and manage emotions
      • Set and reach positive goals
      • Have and show empathy toward others
      • Build and maintain positive relationships
      • Make responsible choices

    Why Suite360?

Suite360 is a digital, character development and social & emotional learning program with content aligned to the standards developed by the National Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL).

    • 20 years of research to design a program to help children build social and emotional learning skills
    • Short weekly lessons help children develop skills to deal with feelings, bullying, empathy and more
    • Lessons a facilitated by a teacher one day a week (Grades K-5), or students can go through them on their own
    • Each lesson is an engaging multimedia learning experience with instruction, practice activities, and discussion

    How will Suite360 work?

Each week will feature a new SEL theme. While these social and emotional learning sessions using Suite360 are not required, we strongly encourage families to take advantage of the program and discuss the skills their children are learning.

    • Students/families can access the lesson via the Suite360 link in Clever
      • Lessons take 15 minutes to complete if done asynchronously
      • K-5 teachers will host a 30-minute session to lead and discuss the weekly lesson
      • 6-12 teachers will share content and be available to students for discussion
    • Lessons contain grade-specific learning objectives
