Early Childhood Education

  • The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program provides students with an opportunity to work with and learn about young children. Students work in an Anchorage School District Preschool classroom located in King Tech High School. They are supervised by early childhood education instructors. There are 4 semesters of ECE offered, but students do not have to enroll for all semesters. Students who complete all 4 semesters of Early Childhood Education have the potential to earn their Child Development Associate Credential before graduating. Each semester will offer the opportunity for UAA credit. Students will learn child development and how to support the early teaching of 4-5 year olds. Topics of study in ECE include: Social Emotional Learning, child development, health and safety, areas of developmental domain, professionalism, observing and recording children’s behavior, strengthening families, and ensuring a well run program.

Grade level 11-12. Students need to earn a “C” or better to advance to the next level of ECE.  Students who advance to the fourth semester, may be placed in another preschool classroom within Anchorage School District or at a child development center in the community for practicum experience.
