As South Anchorage High School (SAHS) enters its nineteenth year as a comprehensive high school in the Anchorage School District, students, staff, parents, and community members praise the school for the high levels of academic achievement that our students have realized thus far.
At South High School we believe that building productive relationships between students, teachers, parents, support staff, and the surrounding community is the first step toward academic success. We also believe learning should be both relevant and rigorous. In particular, that what students are asked to learn can be applied outside the classroom, and that the standards of excellent work will be identified, and a path to achieving them provided to all students. Taking this approach means all students have the greatest opportunity to take advantage of what the school offers in order to fulfill their potential.
The school has an exceptional academic program with a full complement of Advanced Placement classes in all curricular areas. We also offer Honors Language Arts and Social Studies classes at the ninth and tenth grade levels, a large number of World Language classes and specialized Fine Arts, Music and Career Technology courses. In addition, SAHS students have numerous interscholastic athletic opportunities, as well as a host of clubs and other programs that are available to them to help broaden their educational experience. We have an outstanding faculty and the yearly turnover rate is very low.
We have currently doubled the number of students who are taking AP classes compared to the number of students enrolled in AP classes in our very first year. Our teachers consistently work to ensure that all of their instructional activities are standards-based, rigorous, and relevant. The staff at SAHS is committed to helping each student achieve his or her unique academic potential in a safe, welcoming learning environment.
The South Anchorage High School mascot is the wolverine.
South Anchorage High School colors are black and Vegas gold.
