Eagle River High School

The Gang Green

  • ERHS Eagle River High School became an ASD Green School in Nov 2018. The school has been collecting recycling for over 5 years now. This year will mark the sixth year of their aluminum can and plastic bottle recycling program. The program started very small, only collecting one or two bags of recycling a week. Now, with upwards of six bags per week, the program continues to grow. The Green Team hopes that, with the support of the ASD Green Schools Initiative and the Pepsico Recycle Rally, recycling at Eagle River High School is able to improve and grow their recycling efforts. Way to go, Gang Green!

About Green Team

  • Green Team Name:  The Gang Green
Team Members: Structured Learning/Life Skills class
    Sponsor: Tammy Essary

  • As part of our weekly routine, we run a "route" at which time we separate, pick-up, and weigh aluminum cans and #1 and #2 plastic bottles throughout the school. To supplement our efforts we joined the PepsiCo Recycle Rally, where we report of collection amounts and in exchange, we get points to obtain recycling infrastructure and swag. We hope to use the obtained items to incentivize recycling at a school-wide level.

Sustainability Plan and Goals

  • Eagle River High School plans to continue improving their recycling program by:

    • Placing more recycling bins in common areas
    • Start collecting mixed paper
    • Create more professional labeling
    • Celebrating earth day to spread education in recycling and waste reduction
    • Creating more recycling and waste reduction opportunities in the school
