Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)
-
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is a paper and pencil survey of students in grades 9-12 who have parent permission. Parent permission is requested at the time of registration. No personal identifying information is collected and the survey is administered in a way that protects student privacy. The YRBS collects important information about the health of Alaskan adolescents, including health-risk behaviors that contribute to death, disability, and social problems. It is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Alaska Departments of Education and Early Development and Health and Social Services, and numerous community organizations.
YRBS will be administered Spring of 2023.
The purpose of YRBS is to help monitor the prevalence of behaviors that put Alaska youth at risk for the most significant health and social problems that can occur during adolescence and adulthood. Results assist in prevention, intervention planning, and evaluation.
This anonymous survey examines a minimum of six categories of adolescent behavior:
- Unintentional injuries and violence
- Tobacco use
- Alcohol and other drug use
- Sexual behaviors
- Unhealthy dietary behaviors
- Inadequate physical activity
