Eligibility Requirements for Extended Leave:
To qualify for Extended Leave, the employee must meet all of the following:
- Be a tenured employee.
- Have not taken an Extended Leave of Absence in the past 5 years.
- Not currently be on a Plan of Improvement.
- Not currently be on a Plan of Growth.
- Submit a completed Extended Leave Application.
- Include a written explanation with the request.
Conditions of Extended Leave:
- Unpaid Leave: The leave is unpaid.
- Medical Benefits: Medical coverage through PEHT will end. To continue coverage, contact PEHT at (907) 274-7526 for COBRA rate information.
- Retirement Impact: You will be placed on Inactive Leave of Absence Without Pay (LWOP) for TRS Retirement. LWOP does not count toward vesting or retirement eligibility. For retirement-related questions, contact Dana Kendrick, Generalist – Compensation and Retirement, at (907) 742-4156.
- Outside Employment: You may not work for another school district or employer during the leave unless you receive prior authorization from the District and submit a Request for Contemporaneous Employment Form.
- Return to Work: A position with the District or your current school is not guaranteed. Return is based on position availability.
