- Oversee K-12 curriculum review, design, articulation, and implementation based on national standards
- Recruit and retain highly qualified world language and immersion teachers
- Provide professional development and support for world language teachers
- Provide professional development and support for immersion teachers and administrators
- Provide Administrative Designee/Travel Training
- Coordinate STAMP assessments
- Coordinate ASD’s Seal of Biliteracy
- Collaborate with international community organizations
- Support and collaborate with district-level School Business Partnerships
- Organize and support community events and competitions for ASD world language students (such as the World Language Declamation Contest)
Department Overview

The mission of the ASD’s World Languages and Immersion Programs Department is to prepare students for a diverse and multilingual global community. Languages represented in our department include: ASL, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Yup’ik. The department oversees and articulates the district’s K-12 world language and immersion curriculum and programming, supporting students, teachers, administrators. Approximately 8,000 ASD students are enrolled in a world language class or immersion program annually. Working collaboratively with various linguistic and/or cultural groups within Anchorage, the World Languages Department coordinates community events that support our students and our diverse city.
