Benefits
-
The Anchorage School District provides a competitive benefits package for eligible employees. Employee premiums vary depending on the bargaining unit and the benefits selected. This website provides an overview of the benefits available to those eligible. In the event of any discrepancy between the website and the plan booklet, the plan booklet will prevail. The benefits plan is subject to change. Employees should read the benefit plan booklet for a complete description of benefits, limitations, exclusions and for information on how best to use the plan.
Questions regarding ASD-provided insurance plans should first be directed to the plan providers (i.e. Aetna, Guardian, TRI-AD.)

ASD is pleased to partner with Aetna to provide you with two medical plan options. With the choice
of two plans, you can select the plan that best fits you and your family’s needs. When you enroll
in the Consumer Driven Health Plan (CDHP), you may be eligible to open and contribute pre-tax
dollars into a Health Savings Account (HSA). If you are not eligible for the HSA, you will be
provided with the new Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA).
It is important to note that both plans offer the PPO Plus Alaska provider network. If you
voluntarily see an out-of-network provider for care, you will pay more than if you choose to see an in-network
provider.

Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
ASD is pleased to offer you a Health Reimbursement Arrangement. This is an employer owned and funded account. Employees may not make contributions to this account. Because the account is employer owned, when your employment ends or you are no longer enrolled in this plan, the money in your HRA stays with the employer unless you elect COBRA. You do not need to submit any claims, when you receive medical care. Your provider will bill Aetna, who will automatically use the HRA funds to pay your claims until your HRA funds are exhausted. .If you use all of the money in your HRA, you are responsible for the remaining portion of the deductible before the plan pays coinsurance. Any remaining HRA funds will be rolled over to the next plan year.
