ASD Paraprofessional Educators
Paraeducators are technicians who serve alongside teachers and other professional educators, "just as their counterparts in law and medicine are designated as paralegals and paramedics."
What's New
The Anchorage School District is working towards growing apprenticeship opportunities. One potential pathway is the teacher apprenticeship. A teacher apprenticeship program offers a pathway for aspiring educators to earn their teaching certification while gaining hands-on classroom experience under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers, all while remaining employed. This "earn while you learn" model is a direct pathway to a teaching career without having to leave the workforce to attend school. What's Next
We are surveying ASD paraprofessionals to learn 1) if you want to become a teacher, and 2) what prior education you may have completed. Please complete this optional survey to help us better understand your interests and let us know if you'd like us to follow up with you about this exciting new pathway to becoming a teacher.Link for Survey
This optional survey closes on Thursday, September 4th.Questions? Please email asdparapro@asdk12.org

Gracelyn is currently growing enrollment in the Bachelor of Transformational Education, designed specifically to provide a path for non-certified school staff to earn an online education degree and become licensed teachers. All of Gracelyn’s programs are taught by experienced K-12 educators who are experts in their fields. Courses run in eight (8) week terms, offered five (5) times per year. The full 120-credit-hour degree costs $10,656, typically paid monthly at $222. Most Gracelyn students qualify for a 50% institutional scholarship, reducing the monthly cost to just $111.
In this course, participants will learn how to use primary sources to engage students in place-based history. Educators will create a documentary film in the spring and then teach a film-making unit with their students in the fall. These films will highlight community stories, histories, and cultures.
