Who is the Business Academy for?
We're looking for students who are interested in business, and want to earn college credit while staying at their own high school. Students who want to enter the workforce in banking, office administration or bookkeeping & accounting, and be career or college ready upon graduation.
When are UAF classes taught?
The UAF courses are asynchronous, providing maximum flexibility for student schedules. The ASD Business Teacher will set up regular (biweekly) check-ins with every student to monitor progress and provide support.
Who is eligible?
Cohorts start during the student's junior year of high school. The program will take 2 years to complete. Current juniors who are interested in beginning as a senior may apply and be considered on a space available basis for partial completion of the program. Applications and references will be evaluated for admission into the program.
Do students need to leave their high school?
No, students remain enrolled at their high school. Courses are scheduled into a student's regular school day, utilizing the school's Cyber Learning Center for dedicated learning space.

-
Administrative Assistant Pathway
This pathway is ideal for students who are interested in office-related careers. Administrative assistants are professionals who handle a variety of tasks in the office to support managers, other employees and visitors. It’s important that administrative assistants have excellent communication and organizational skills, and are attentive and responsive to the needs of their colleagues. This program will give students the tools needed for entry-level positions in a variety of office settings. Students will have the option to earn two micro-credentials in Microsoft Excel.
-
Bookkeeping Pathway
This program is a great starting point for students who are interested in bookkeeping and accounting jobs, or want foundational training for entry-level business careers. It’s also an ideal stepping stone for students who are interested in pursuing further business education (particularly in accounting) in the future.
-
Financial Services Pathway
The financial services representative pathway is a hands-on job training program that prepares students for customer service and teller positions in banks, credit unions and other financial institutions. Coursework will develop student knowledge of customer service, financial management, banking and investing, business math and human relations.
